Russian service wraps up issue of data localization by Microsoft
MOSCOW, Nov 15 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has closed the issue of personal data localization by U.S. giant Microsoft, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media said Tuesday in a statement.
“The presented report is full from the point of view of respecting the regulator’s orders,” the service’s Director Alexander Zharov said. “There is no need in additional unscheduled checks of compliance with the Russian law on personal data.”
The service checked Microsoft Rus, a local unit of the U.S. company, between March 1 and April 26 and revealed some breaches that it ordered to be amended by October 26. Microsoft duly presented the report on fixed violations.
Zharov said “the issue of localization of personal data of Russians on servers by Microsoft Rus is closed”.
